The Soil Association standards must meet consumer expectations, reflect the best sustainability and become a benchmark for organic production globally. Combined with rigorous certification procedures this means that the Soil Association symbol has become the organic symbol of trust!
Millions of farmers depend on selling their crops to survive. Buit it is a risky business - when prices drop it can spell disaster for farmers. If they earn less than it costs to run the farm, they face real hardship - struggling to buy food or keep their children in school. Ultimately they may lose their land and their livelyhood. By buying Fairtrade coffee, you're giving farmers a chance to sell their products at a stable price that covers their costs and enables them to support their families and invest in a better future.
The new Rainforest Alliance seal stands for a better future for people and nature:
• farmers have been provided with the tools, skills and knowledge needed to drive more sustainable and profitable farming, and
• companies invest in the supply chain and reward more sustainable practices that help protect forests, improve farmer livelihoods, promote human rights and support climate adaptation.
OF&G certify over 1400 farmers, who farm more than half of the UK’s organic land, as well as companies ranging from small, independent processors to major multinationals. Their role is to ensure that the Organic standards are carried out on organic farms and food businesses across the UK, and to offer support and guidance for businesses who are making the switch to organic.
The EU organic logo signifies that a product meets the European Union's strict organic farming rules, ensuring it's produced, processed, and handled in an environmentally and animal-friendly way. For processed products, this means at least 95% of the agricultural ingredients are organic.
